I got 6 discus with biggest one at 5" and rest are 4.5, 4, 3 and one at 2.5. Problem is 2.5 not eating enough due to low rank and just hides when others feed. New tank setup with these fish. I am concern that the 2.5 wll not reach potential and stunt if this keeps up.

Don't want to but do I need to put 2.5 on his own grow out tank?

Please advise.

you should have stuck with the same size fish, if you can put the small guy in its own tank, do so but perhaps you can try using a tank divider first depending on your current tank size. The problem with this is that your 3 inch fish will be the next victim.

No room for divider quess I have to go with separate tank for 2.5.

Dividing up your fish with one or two in a tank is not a good option. You'll always get a runt in a tank like that. Unless you can get 5-6 smaller fish just feed enough so they all get to eat all they want and keep the water clean. When the big guys learn there is plenty of food they'll settle down some.

So maybe I should just leave the 2.5 inch in there with rest and give it time for it to feed?
