Hi all, as its winter, dry skin is a big problem for me so I have to lotion up. I used to wash my arm that will be going into the tank before doing water changes but i always wondered if I had to. Anyone else share this problem? Will it harm my fish?

I like to use lotion too but I wash it off prior to a hand/arm going into the tank. Not sure if it will harm the fish or not. Just error on the side of caution.

I'm not entirely sure but since my wife feeds my fish in morning and uses lotion all the time it's never hurt them. I'm a mechanic and even had gas on my hands before, although I washed really good the smell is still there and when the fish came up they kind of backed up alittle but were still ok. So I think it's fine for that short period of time imo

i wouldnt apply lotion before working on tanks or feeding but its nothing a quick wash wont solve like Pat stated.

I think it's really more a case of the fragrance then anything, normally no, but it will depend on the amount that gets into the water....best to error on the side of caution imo-wash hands

Maybe I should look into all natural lotions

I use lotion all the time and try to remember to wash off; however, I know I have fed and changed water lots of time with it on and it has never harmed the fish. I always use unscented so maybe that helped.
