Yesterday I had a photoshoot in a restaurant that will open in the next couple of weeks. Great place, AWESOME food. One perk to doing food photography is that you get to eat everything after you are done, lol.

The theme for the restaurant is American with French influence. Enjoy the pics :)

The restaurant (Prospect Gourmande) is due to open in the next couple of weeks. If you are ever in the Beverly Hills area in California, go and try the delicious Eggs Benedict and Hash, it is sooo good.

Nice Ricardo, is it save to say you are using the fstop to bring attention to the chosen food item in the pictures?

Great pictures but I'm a picky eater. I'm more of a burger and fries or steak kind of guy

I was actually really hungry when I started this shoot. 2 or 3 plates in to the shoot, I was no longer hungry lol.

In a sense, yes, but, for the most part, you want to get a large DOF to get most things sharp.

In order to be able to stop down my lenses, in this case my 90 2.8 & 50 1.4, I relied heavily on 3 flashes fired with triggers to create enough light. Had I gone with a wide apeture, I would have lost a lot of sharpness relatively quickly, especially at macro distances, like many of these shots are.

The closer you are to your subject, the faster things go out of focus. If you notice the last shot, which was shot wide open (if I remember correctly, no exif on apeture because it is a manual focus lens converted to my mount) at f/1.2, the background quickly went out of focus. I couldn't recreate this shot with my macro or 24-70 lens because they just weren't fast enough.

Lastly, the importance of your area of focus is very crucial to these type of shots. Every single shot here was shot specifically to emphasize a certain part of the dish on purpose. The apeture was somewhat important, but stopping down anywhere past f/4 was more important than exactly which one above that was necessary if that makes sense.

These are more of the breakfast and brunch menu items. I still need to go back for the dinner menu :). Stay tuned.
