The female started to lay eggs (so confirmed female :)) and the suspected male ate them. He is definitely NOT ready to join the party yet. :)

So caged the eggs which freaked the female out. They do not seem to be tending the eggs this morning plus there are quite a few white eggs (to be expected). These fish are still young so I'm sure the brooding instincts will kick in at some point.

Rufus, last time I played with breeding a pair of domestics waiting for the wilds to do something, the Tefe's paired up and spawned. Sort of hoping for the same thing here. Either way definitely would like to confirm these guys. :D

So the eggs went all white by this afternoon. Once the cage went on the female did not fan the eggs and I did not have an extra air pump to pump air to slowly bubble around the eggs to help with water circulation. I removed the cage and walked away and the female was back to fanning the eggs so perhaps that is a good sign. I cleaned the cone and lowered the TDS in the tank. It was 97 and now is 80. Target is 50 for the next spawn. Stay tuned. :D

These guys laid again tonight. I walked in towards the end of the egg laying and the male does not seem to be covering the eggs very well. TDS is 47 but I suspect these eggs will turn white due to the male not doing his job...teenagers.

They have not spawned yet Ricardo (but need to go check). These guys are getting big. The female is six inches now and the male is six and a half. Yup, measured with a ruler :) The pair is getting along very well, might need to rename the thread.

Thanks Geoff, I would think these guys are pretty spot on for size based on age. Thinking seven or eight months old at five inches plus another eight months with me puts them at about 16 months of age.

These guys are currently spawning so I grabbed my camera and speed-light. After messing with the settings I finally feel like the fish look fairly true in the picture as they do to my eyeball. This pair definitely are not egg savvy. Watched lots of eggs fall to the bottom of the tank and the male was happy to help himself. He does seem to be covering the eggs. So here are some pics.

Thanks Ricardo and Chris, well, the male was so busy tending to the eggs which fell off the cone he sort of forget to fertilize the eggs. Eggs went white. I better give him a FDBW cube so he can practice. :D

Hi Pat, They are beautiful. I just received today my four Giant floras from Kenny. They are in QT and they seem a bit shy yet and have lights off but have some ambient light from the windows. They are quite nice and hope they grow up to be like your pair. Take care. Rufus

Despite the eggs going white I left the eggs on the cone to see what the parents would do. As of last night the female was still tending the eggs. I will remove the eggs today and maybe the male will do his job next time.
