I know there is about a zero percent chance of anything happening here but this is REALLY cool for my first group of Discus. I have grown these guys out from 2.5 and today I came home to eggs!!

Way to go, Greg ! Exciting, isn't it ?

Thanks Mike and Paul!

Quick Question:

Since I am pretty sure this is just a female practicing - can I assume the discus that is being attentive to the eggs IS in fact a female? My thought process is, that unless a male has fertilized and is helping protect the clutch it safe to assume their only interest would be in eating the eggs and not taking care of them?

I would love to be able to identify the sex of this fish for future attempts at breeding.

That is a bunch of eggs Greg, could be two females from the look of it. :)

Its a Stendker from Hans - this is normal for a strong German female! :jester:

I have been in the fishroom observing and have figured out the maybe pair. It is either two females OR paired Snakeskin Flachen and Snakeskin Blue with me leaning towards the blue being the male judging by the behavior

Here is a quick video

sorry for the horrible video :) not my strong suit

Those two pictures merged together may make the appearance to some of twice as many eggs; I had to look twice to see that is was two pictures.

try not to go off of behavior as much. Look at the tubes, that will give you the definitive answer.

I hadn't thought of that. This was my first upload with the new image software that Al and his crew upgraded to.

The left pic is a closeup of the right pic. The generic background does make it look like one pic!

Thanks Ricardo. I have raised these fish properly. They don't just go around flashing their tubes everywhere :)

If I am lucky enough at some point I will catch them in action.

Greg, if you have id-ed the pair correctly they are an excellent looking pair. :)

They did it again :) - eggs were eaten within 24 hours. At some point I will move the suspected pair over to a 55 to see if I can prove them.

p.s. They took right to Barbs cone ;)

The eggs in the first photos look to be fertilized. Note the black dots present in most of them.

Scheme away, Tankster, scheme away. With the way you're caring for your discus, you deserve a little fishroom upgrade :) Well done!
