Discus Lineage????

There are so many strains/morphs out there it would be nice to be able to learn the lineage of a discus.
For example, a person might want to avoid allowing a cross between a PB and a non-PB.
Is there a good source on this?

Would be nice Larry, but I never really ran across a lot. Most of the strains are trade "secrets", and we will never really know what is mixed in...Bill

I'm hoping that over time we will get some of this info from the new strain catalogue by backwards engineering... but unfortunately there probably more misinformation than facts about strain development and history. And there are many that claim this or that strains creation, which also confuses the issues.:(

Hi Al. I bought it just as a Heckel Cross...crossed with what, who knows. The importer would not name his source. That's a proven female...Bill

Hi Ron. I have not crossed them with anything yet. They are pretty tight together, and on eggs again. I'm hoping this time they are fertile. I have my hunches about possibly being two females. In any case I have some Altum Floras RT's and some Piwo RT's that I would like to cross with down the line...Bill

LOL...will do Rick!....I have two of those Leopard Heckel cross(Tara) as well, tho not as lucky as you with them. I think we got them from the same person. I also have some of the Cobalt Heckel cross, with no luck as well. What would two Heckel crosses produce if you had to guess? Better chance of Heckel looking fry out crossed with something else?...Bill

With my Heckel/Penang crosses I find two 9 bar Heckel crosses produce some with the center bar pronounced. But I get better results using one of the 14 bar Heckel off spring with a 9 bar. Interesting I have a nice batch from a pair of 14 bar Heckel crosses and they seem to throw more 9 bars with Heckel bar than the 9 bar pair I kept. I have a very nice 9 Bar Heckel cross male that is almost 8" that could use a mate : )

Considering Bill got his heckle leopard cross's from the same source, it is my guess they stand a good chance of being golden intermediates as well.
