Filtration is an in tank filter but that can be changed not a problem what would be best

Shane, this is a bit smaller than a 40 breeder but should work fine as a growout tank for a while depending on number and size of the fish. I use a sponge filter in my growout tanks. You will need to plan on a larger tank as the fish grow.

Yes I have a 120 gallon 4x2x2 cycled ready but thought with this smaller tank it will be easier and I could do 2 daily 50% wc on this and it won't be so bad. Can get sponge filters that won't be a problem how many could I grow out in there and up until what size thanks

I would suggest two large sponge filters on each side of the tank. You will get plenty of air and circulation that way.

So what size would I best off with 2 sponge filters rated for what size tanks thanks

I just get two of the larger size. The extra filtration would not hurt. Something like this http://www.kensfish.com/aquarium-supplies/aquarium-filters/ati-hydro-sponge-filter-5.html.

The larger the group the sooner you will need to move them to a larger tank. I would suggest a 75 for their next tank.

Ok will see what I can do who'd have thought I'd need 2 tanks before I even get the discus into the main tank haha. Thank again for all your help have just set up a wc system on my 120 gallon it was drilled on the left hand side when I bought it coming out of the actual side itsel not the bottom so thought well that would be perfect so have added a bulkhead and a stop tap so drilled through the wall and run a length of 22mm hose straight to the garden so to drain water I just need to turn the tap and wait and then I have a thermostatic mixing valve plumbed into the faucet under the sink through my hma filter and straight into the tank so water changes should be a lot easier does this sound ok thanks

The 120 sounds awesome but I can not suggest anything on the way the tank is plumbed. I would suggest when you drain the tank be sure to put a strainer in the tank over the bulkhead. Reason for this is to prevent the fish from getting sucked to the bulkhead when draining.

Yes I have a plastic strainer around 2 inches long over the bulkhead to stop anything bring sucked too close and also have a bit of bogwood right up against it so nothingcan get near thank

Shane, I would suggest eight to start with depending on the size. What size are you thinking of starting with?

They will all be roughly 2.5" thanks

I would suggest six to eight. Discus this size can grow 1/2 inch a month if you stay on top of your feedings and water changes. So be prepared to move them to a larger tank when they are in the 3.5" range.

Pat,

Do you realize that is only an 112 liter tank which is approximately 30 gallons. Since one does not fill all the way to the top of the tank it is more like 27 0r less gallons. At the time of removal that will be a lot of fish in a small tank.
