I was curious on if my discus behavior is normal, I can put food in their tank and they go into a feeding frenzy... But as soon as the food touches the floor they ignore it. This leads to them not eating as much as I want them to and a lot of wasted food.

Perhaps you are feeding to much in one shot. Try feeding a smaller amount so they eat it all before it hits the bottom. If they still seem hungry add another small amount.
