Id love to have some yellow discus, however, they always seem to turn orange as they reach adulthood. I realize that many discus foods will color enhance the fish to orange/reds. For those of you who have yellow adult discus, what strain would you reccommend, and what food do you feed them?? Kris:o

This probably won't help you much, but I thought I'd share my experience... I bought a 4" golden diamond in September 2014. He was a pretty yellow. 9 months later, he isn't as pretty (but don't tell him I told you so.) Lately, his main diet has been FDBW, frozen bloodworms, and Hikari Discus Bio-Gold pellets. I went through a phase where I fed Bio-Pigment FDBW, but he already had the orange halo by then. I tried it to see if I could get my other fish to color up better, but I didn't keep up with it. I think the Bio-Gold is what contributed to his color?? Anyway, here are before and afters:

Keep yellows in seperate tank and feed only your own oxheart mix or food you can controll .

the colour changes is big, BRO.... sorry..... I recently bought golden lemon also, and the breeder 1st questions to me was if u are to buy these, make sure dont mix with other colour discus, if have no choose then at least, feed them food that has no colour enhancer

Be careful for sera blue as the spirulina in it enhances the blue but spirulina also enhances red/orange.

there is no true yellow discus.. they are really just pale orange pigeon blood discus.. and pb discus do change colors/patterns over time..

if you are buying JUVI "yellow" discus.. ask for a pic of the parents.. gives you a much better idea what you are buying..

very rarely.. will a juvi discus look the same as when adult

Are you talking about the Red fish in the second picture or the white fish?

Ramon, I love your red fish! What do you feed him? That's a huge difference in 2 months and so much prettier than my splotchy guy.

I am confused, looks to me like we have two different conversations going on. The first is about the difference in the yellow fish in the first picture and the white fish in the second picture; the second conversation is about how pretty the red fish is, correct?

I suggest keeping a yellows only tank and feeding them non red color food if you want to keep them yellow.which is what id do as I pay double the price for yellows compared to reds.

I agree. Yellow is very hard to obtain. I was told back in 2002 that you should grind yellow marigolds into their beef heart or other homemade meat mix.

Years ago when Cary was the man, he had beautiful butter yellow adults. God only knows what happened to them. I haven't seen their match since.

Tetra granules, AFDBW and BH.

If you really want a yellow fish that will stay bright yellow, I'd suggest to go with an albino. I've got two in my tank for years and getting a third (link below). No special food required!

I don't see bright yellow in those. Kinda orangy/yellow looking. Very attractive discus though

That vid does make it look orangy - will take shots from my tank with good lighting and show her true yellow color.

These were the most yellow juvies I ever had. They grew up a lot more orange.

Juvies usually never look like their adult color or size.. so its hard to judge fish color when young.. thats why i always state.. always get a picture or look at the parents of the JUVIES

Yes, with an iPhone; I rotated it in iPhoto and Google, but regardless of how it was oriented it came out sideways on SD:confused:
