Has anyone here used these? Just saw them on kensfish.com. Was thinking of trying it out in my canisters. Will nitrate pads or other chemical filtration have an effect on plant fertilizers in the tank? Only $3.95 for an 18x10 pad might give it a try.

Not unless your fresh water supply is already high in nitrates.Plants and lots water changes to replace nutrients and to get rid of extra nitrates and TDS's will do just fine.Bottom line;you'll still need to do your water changes.

I'm not looking to to replace my water changes. Just as something extra. My nitrates out of the tap are around 20ppm. My tank hangs around 20-30. I just switched from 3 30% changes a week to 2 50-60% changes a week. The larger wcs are keeping the tank much cleaner. The 20-30 doesn't seem to be bothering the fish they are brightly colored and growing fast. Maybe it would be more affective if I put a filter on my aging barrel with the nitrate pads. Thoughts?
