Will they "thrive" alone?

I have 3 pair that I'm not trying to breed at the moment. They're each in separate tanks. Will they do well that way, or would they do better if put them back into a community situation? Trying hard not to anthropomorphise, but will they be happier one way over the other?

I have three confirmed pairs isolated in their own tanks. They seem just fine. Rufus

I have 5 confirmed in the same tank but sometimes I swap pairs.
