Dear all,

I m on the way to setup a small discus breeding zone.I have 4 ft free long space and I have made a 3 tire frame. At Level-0, I have placed my old 30in cubic Tank to store RO water and a Pump is there for distribution purpose. At Level-1 & 2, I am planning to place the breeding tanks. And I have three options below regarding the breeding Tank size:

a. W15 x L24 x H18 = 27 gal
b. W14 x L24 x H18 = 25 gal
c. W12 x L24 x H18 = 22 gal
d. W12 x L20 x H18 = 18 gal
e. W15 x L20 x H18 = 23 gal

my preference is "d", then "c", then "e", then "b", then "a", I prefer more tanks if it supports. But I m confused by so many diversified information with the help of google. Please vote as per your understanding/experience for the tanks size to help me to build a good setup.

I can add a poll feature to this thread if you would like? This can be done when creating a thread for your future reference.

My vote is for none, they are all badly designed imo. Width should be a minimum of 18" for the comfort of the discus.

ok, noted. So far I have found that people are commonly telling about more height. I think with width 18" it will be kind of cubic considering the standard (so called) size 29Gal because mostly people recommended for at least 18" height/depth and more than 29gal is difficult for fry to find parents.

Anyway, what can be the minimum size when W18X L? x H as per your observation?

My favorite size is 20" length x 24" width x 20" high. But i don't think the height is of any particular importance, it just looks nicer. A good breeder i know use tanks that are around 10" high, just enough to cover the height of the biggest discus. He has a tiny room and fits in extra tanks by reducing the height and having more rows.

The width is the most important dimension imo! The footprint (or the surface area) is the next most important consideration. Height is more for aesthetics if you are having the tank in an area where it needs to look attractive. If you are looking for the smallest size to reduce cost, save with the glass by reducing the height.

Omg!!!!
I wish I could have gotten my hands on six "e." When I built my set up!
I had to go with standard 20g talls, because of availiblity in my used market all I could find wa 20g talls, I suppose I could have ordered different sizes, but at $50 for all 6 20g talls how could I turn them down.
i think when I revamp my set up I may go with the 23g talls "e." For my breeders and 30g Cubs as grow outs plus a cube 70g as a large grow out. We will see but I love the 23g tall sizes!

I use aquarium dimensions 50/50/50 cm. (20 "). I think we should discus and the width and height for successful spawning.

If Shibly agrees I think that would be great Richardo.
If I had that list to go on...my choice would be (a) W15 x L24 x H18 = 27 gal but agree with Rod my choice to buy would be minimum 18" wide

yeah, just waiting on OP to give the go ahead.

OP, a poll feature simply allows a member to vote, right at the top of the thread, and show you which option is the most popular, and which isn't. I would encourage you to also include a "none" option in case members do not agree on any of the choices.

Thank you all for your valuable inputs.
I have just built my 6 breeding tank and now plumbing work in progress for a drain line at bottom and an inline at top. due to having less space it looks clumsy. However, i m happy for now :D.

My tank size:
16x24x18 = 3 pcs (29gal)
15x24x20 = 3 pcs (32gal)
Total = 6

Thank you once again.
Take care.
