View Full Version : Large sensory pits - possible HITH/HLLE

1. Please explain the problems with your fish:

Two of my new fish refused to eat for 3-4 weeks after shipment and eventually developed larger sensory pits. Water is changed 3 times a day and all my fish are fed my BH mix before each water change (mix includes vitamin and calcium supplements). There never was a white pimple or any sign of infection or illness. The fish began eating this past week but I don't see any changes to the holes, I included a sharpened new and older picture of the cobalt to show the difference and would like to know if there's anything else that can be done?

2. Symptoms:

- Englarged pits on the head, no odd behavior or other symptoms.



3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried:

- None.



4. Tank size and ages, numbers and sizes of fish.

- 80 gallons, 10 adult discus.



5. Water change regime:

- Three water changes, 75% each.



6. How long has tank been running? Is it bare bottom?

- Nearly 2 months, cycled, bare bottom.



7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing.

- No, tried aging and there was no PH swing after 24 hours.



8. Parameters and water source;

- temp _____ 30-31 c

- ph _____ 7.5

- kg _____ 3

- gh _____ 6

- TDS _____ 140

- ammonia reading ____ 0

- nitrite reading ____ 0

- nitrate reading ____ less than 10

- Tap water dechlorinated with Prime



9. Any new fish, plants or inverts added recently.

- No, all fish were added at the same time from the same shipment.

both of these pictures look like normal sensory pits to me, i think you may be making something out of nothing

I hope that's the case Jacklyn, took these pictures of the second fish as well:

Sorry for the quality but aside from the nostrils none of the other pits were visible a few weeks ago.
