View Full Version : Would you keep or cull these fry?

Both of these fry were born on 9-4-2015. Pictures were taken 10-15-2015.
They are both about 2", maybe a tiny bigger.

Do you think their fins will eventually grow normal or would these be in the cull division?

Thanks!

I'll give it to someone who wants to start keeping discus.

The dorsal fins on those fish will never be right. I've had a few like that over the years and I always culled them.

Are these your first hatch? If they are Congrats, how do the others look and how many are about this size.2 inches in 5 weeks is pretty good,I can't tell you to cull or not cull, that's up to you

This is the second time I have tried growing them out so I am still learning. There are only 9 so I have been able to give them a ton of food which has probably helped them grow quickly. Thanks for the feedback, I have been wondering! All of the others are about the same size as this one:

I'm keeping track of their grow-out progress, food and water change results in my picture album labeled "Discus fry - born 9-4-2015". Feel free to check it out.

I ended up with 3 pairs among other discus in this aquarium. I couldn't stop them from spawning if I wanted to so figured what the heck, let's give it a try! lol

This is a couple of the pairs laying eggs at today:

Sorry, but cull. I've had two culls that have taken up space that I could've had great discus. Cull.

That isn't very humane. Clove oil and call it a day.

freeze or clove oil right..

Or a hard bounce off the floor or a quick slice with a fillet knife. At that size there are a lot of options for culling.

no different then when you buy a lot of shiners and cast them out when fishing....not really. or fish with small blues or sunnies for bait.

Well, I guess that was an easier question than I thought! The 2 fish have been culled.

Thanks for your input.
