I am new to breeding discus and discus in general. I have always had fish tanks (fresh and salt) and have had success so I wanted to try something new so I bought a "possible breeding pair" form a local fish supplier. He told me that the fish have paired up and have layed eggs. When I brought the pair home I put them into a 20 gallon tank with a breeding cone. At first they seemed fine but the next day the larger one (the female according to the seller) started to bite the smaller one on the sides. Now the smaller one is facing the back corner of the tank and when he moves the larger one swims towards him and bites him on his sides. It's been 2 days now and nothing has changed. Any suggestions on what I should do? I am currently doing 50% water changes daily my ph is at 6.8, my ppm is at 80, and my temp is 84*f.

This is a double post.

I'd separate them if the other fish is getting physical damage. I've had fish kill their mates.

Okay I will keep a close eye on them and separate them if i see any physical damage.

Thanks.

I always just leave them together. My guess is the big one if the male. The often act like this when they want to spawn.
