Is it a safety precaution to keep the water level at that height?

Yes,I lost a 19" one 8 years ago.Even i tied the hood and tank with the rope, the fish jumped off the thank and died.Thats why,the native people called the fish monkey.

Awe, that's too bad! I thought that might be why the water level was so low. I remember Joey having a video about a Gar that jumped out of his tank. It cracked the top glass lids. Crazy.

I thought it was referred to as the monkey fish because large adults have been known to jump and eat baby monkeys from low hanging branches during flood.

I'm not sure about that. What i saw in the documentary film, the fish jump off the water and eat insect and fruit from low hanging branches. Can jump high, thats why called monkey.

My friend lost 20+ inch aro with lid but no weight on it. Now he has a long 2x4 across with lock :) . I use to have aro and love the way they swim/hunt. what is your way to keep w/o getting drop eye??

Is that a Jardini Arowana WITH Discus? Or in another tank?

I would NOT recommend that. Jardini Arowana will beat up the Discus. It is the most aggressive arowana strain out there. I would recommend a silver/black but you need to upgrade your size tank as well. Silver/black grow LONGER than all arowanas.

I would say to get an asian arowana (like Joey KINGOFDIY) but you live in the states.

Good luck.

I try to warn you :p

It's okay, if you can try to trade it for a black arowana. And you should be able to keep them together.
