9186191862After medicating my duck-billed discus with kanamycin for 10 days, and saw no improvement, I'm thinking that this is another of genitic mutations that show up, every few generations! Since beauty is in the eye of thre beholder...I must say that my discus-duck has the uncannity ability to smile at us. I love this guy...and wonder if any one else out there thinks his smile is pretty/ enjoyable/ pleases you do as well....please tell me what you think!! kris

well, I don't know about duckyface but I do have one that I call a parrotfish for his profile. I'll see about sharing a pic.

personally, and no offense, but I like your duck as much as I like my parrot--which is not at all.

as long as you like him and he is healthy then he is okay with me

Awww, I have a misfit too, it's the first one I look for when I turn on the lights. The way I look at it, if they are healthy and therefore happy, that's all I need. I think he's cute, hope he has many birthdays!

Personally I think it's great that you accept your duck-billed discus as he is. We love our critters, warts and all. I have a severelly stunted yellow discus named Sunny, and I could never bring myself to euthanize him. He's been with me about a year-and-a-half, and I'll have him for the duration, however long that may be :)

At first it was brought to my attentupion that the deformed mouth could be due to a bacterial infection, however, it didn't resolve after treatment with furan-2 and kanamycin, and since he never showed any other symptoms...he eats/poops/acts normally....I'm thinking he's just soooooooooo happy, that he can't stop smiling!
(It's a scientific fact that when we are unhappy, if we force ourselves to smile, it actually tricks our brain into thinking that we are happy).
Any how....id love to see photos of some you guys' not so pretty discus! A contest would be fun! Kris

we should start a "better off culled" thread of all the fish that really should be culled.

we have one we named Cyclops. my "assistants" (elem school age children) refused to let it be culled. and proceeded to lecture me on the idea
