View Full Version : the Dark Angel x Blue Diamond cross F1s are gorgeous - isn't it a PB x non PB cross?

Am curious as to why that particular cross would work.
Do both parents have to be homozygotes?

I have been reading as much as possible prior to even starting a tank, I might not have the time to do things correctly until this summer, even though I have all my equipment except heaters.
and experience is always the best teacher

The genetics are fascinating and complicated. I plan on getting both of the books by Andrew Soh in order to better predict what progeny could result from various crosses.

Wow sorry for being so disjointed there, I'm at work on a break but staff can still find me....
Next question, What does dark angel originate from ?

Get the Soh books, they really break things down. Also, Rick and Ryan can definitely help you here as well. I never feel comfortable explaining these things as I often get them wrong, but either of them can help you out.

Yes, it is a pb x non Pb cross. Why does it work? Some times there are exceptions to the rule.

There is a good thread started here: http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?122483-A-hypothetical-question-for-you-on-Pigeon-Bloods

We haven't touched on the BD gene yet (I wish the thread was drawing more interest btw) but in my opinion, this is another example of co-dominance.

Do they both have to be homozygous? I don't know, but I think it would be preferable (mine were).
