There are many nice red based discus, many arise in the Alenquer region.

These are Cuipeua.

Heiko Bleher has said that the reddest wild is the Rio Ica Red. Has anybody ever seen one?

I looked up Rio Ica. They don't exist commercially. Most Cuipeua reds I have seen are yellow.

ph also has a lot to do with it. Mapet (a username) has a thread of his alenquer reds and his ph is very acidic, the reds on his fish are amazing. check his thread out here http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?115662-My-Small-Wild-Amazon&highlight=mapet its one of my favorite tanks.

It also takes wilds time to acclimate to domestic life. Generally a year to show their true color.
