I love your creativity and the thought behind this. There can never ever be too much filtration and you've covered all the bases with sumpzilla!

The only thing is, micron bags clog awful fast for my tastes, which is why I quit using them. Poret foam is a better choice IMO.
A large piece wedged in place would do the same thing, while giving you more square inches of filtering area, and not clogging as
fast. Very creative though. Good idea.

is your overflow section routed to the first 2 socks? If so, are the others being fed via recirculation? Pretty cool, but watch for overflow. It doesn't look like there is a fail-safe if one of those socks completely clogs as the lip is right along the same height as the sump wall.

I use only nylon socks. They don't clog like polypro and can be cleaned completely in 10 seconds each just with a hose. I don't buy socks from the online fish store folks, I go to the experts at Duda Diesel
that have socks made from many different materials for filtering many different types of liquids from soup to diesel fuel and socks with small enough micron size to filter out the AIDS Virus lol. A sponge
leaves a cloud of mess in your water when changing, a properly placed filter sock comes out clean. But thank you for the nice words. Everybody's different.

If they fill and overflow, the water simply falls back into the main sump. No worries.

And you are correct, there are two 960gph pumps taking the 200 micron filtered water and sending it back to 100/55 microns. Then two 1058s send it back to the tank. The overflows are in both corners completely hidden, as is everything else by the 3d. Heaters are in the sump. Between my horizontal k1s, air stones and the 12 pc of Hydro Vs I have almost 1500 gph of air. Discus love that O2!

Larger square inches than 4pc 7" x 32" socks. I respectfully disagree.

Over one year later, SumpZilla has lived up to it's name. Because of the recirculation, it has never been cleaned or scrubbed. Just pull out the soiled socks, throw 'em in the washer on HOT and replace (I have dozens). I did cut a one inch horizontal slice just below the top ring on the socks to release the water IF it becomes clogged. Again, nylon works much better and doesn't clog as easily as poly or felt.

Ricardo, can you move this thread to your "let's see those sumps" ?

How big is the tank i was thinking of doing a similar amount of Discus in a 600G with roughly 800G of water volume? whats the water change schedule look like?

96" x 27" x 27" 303 us gallons. When I wc, I take the sump down to 1" (heaters are now horizontal in sump) and the tank down to just over their heads. Because of my Starboard bottom with some sand, I can't lay 'em down or they'll get all scratched up. 106792106793

I think I love this sump if I can understand it. Is there 2 pumps sending the 200 micron water into the Matrix bag? How does the water in the compartment with the Matrix and 100 filter drain into the final compartment? Under the damn?

Thanks
Ron

There are two 960 gph pumps that take already filtered (200 microns) water and redirect it back to 2 100 microns nylon socks. The Purigan and Matrix are bathed with 160 gph pumps and also have 4 strong air sticks directly below each of them. The 12 Hydro 5s never have raw, unfiltered water hit them, so I've never had to clean them. Lot's of bb. Then, all water is sent back to tank with now 3 1058 return pumps. The Purigan is in a 200 micron nylon sock, and the Matrix is in a 600. Then are hung so the media is partially in the water at sump level and the 160s send water to wet/dry over the top of the piles. 4 liters Purigan and 2 liters Matrix. It works well beyond all my hopes. Thank you for asking.

Thanks Woodduck, you sure are up late. One more to make sure I have it. How does the water leaving the matrix and purigen reach the final chamber?
Thanks again.
Ron

It simply flows from the socks into the middle chamber of sump water.
