Problem

1. Please explain the problems with your fish. When did you notice the problems and did anything unusual happen that you think started them?
- I started noticing the discoloration and inflammation today. It seems to be from both side, so the problem could be internally.

2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds).
Inflammation and discoloration near the anus/breeding tube area.

3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried and what were the results. Include dosage and duration of treatment.

7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing.
No.

8. Parameters and water source;

Note: Water Parameters are important in diagnosing problems within a tank. If you don't own test kits for the following information, you can purchase them, test your parameters and post this info as soon as possible.

Thats an odd one for sure... but its looking like a bacterial infection. I would recommend a hospitol tank stay, try epsom salt first incase theres a blockage ...but follow up with an antibiotic...kanamycin would be good. FURAN 2 may work as well.

Whats odd is discoloration like that is usually neurological.

Thank you Al, I will get a hospital tank set up now for him to stay and try some epsom salt. Not sure if I have any kanamycin or Furan-2 around, so I'll have to order that. Hopefully it'll make it until then.

I got home and the fish already dead before I got any treatment in... Oh well. I hope others in the tank aren't affected, I'm still puzzled as to what happened :confused:

Thank you Rick. I can't pinpoint exactly how it happened either. All I know is the fish is at the bottom of the chain. It wasn't eating today and beside that there was no other sign, then I found it dead at the bottom of the tank. Nothing have been introduced to the tank in the past 3 months either. Just a weird case.
