Greetings,

I have been keeping Stendker Discus (9) for 1 year. Purchased from Hans at 3 inches and most are over 6 inches now. Grew them out in a bare bottom 70 gallon tank. Moved them to a 250 gallon wood-built tank (thanks Joey, King of DIY). Two of them were laying eggs in the 250 gallon community tank. They were having a great time protecting the eggs. The eggs did turn a darker color and some stayed white, never had and hatch. They must have laid 5 or 6 different times. I moved the pair back to the 70 gallon tank (by themselves) and using RO water I reduced the total dissolved solids to 80 from 155 (which is my tap water). They have been in the 70 gallon tank with a breeding cone for 4 weeks now and they look miserable. They are showing no breeding behavior like they did in the larger community tank. Any help to get them going would be appreciated. 9649296493

Thought I should learn a little before I purchase a proven pare. Would hate to stop a proven pair from breeding because I am doing it wrong.

Leave them be for a while and keep observing them. They will get it sooner than later. Very nice discus and tanks btw

You encourage your discus to breed by doing a 30 % water change but drop the temperature by a few of degrees (4 to 5 degrees colder) of the water going in.

Thank you for the information, I will try that.

For me your breeding tank is way too big because the fry tend to get lost and end up in the other side of the tank, I think 20/29 gallon is perfect size. 70 gallon is good for growing out fry.

Only way I get my pair to breed is giving them extra privacy. I tape white papertowels to the glass so they only see white. Every time I have done this I find eggs within 18hrs.

Increase the water's temperature. If it currently is 82 degrees Fahrenheit, then gradually increase the temperature to 86 degrees and leave it there for a few days to a week. Then reduce the temperature back to 82 degrees.
