I just realized we don't really have an area where we can just post random pics. Many times I have done a shoot but don't really feel like sharing the whole thing and don't post it simply because I would only post one or two pics.

That's the case here :).

So, use this thread to post random pics. Doesn't have to be just discus, it can be literally anything.

I went to a wedding on Friday and got this cool pic of my wife (well, I should say my wife's watch, lol):

The wedding took place at a vineyard and it was a really nice scene:

Looks like a really nice setting Ricardo. :) Since this is random this is me playing with a cactus flower and a little to much water. Still sort of a neat effect.

yup, it was a very nice venue.

WRT your flower, have you tried boosting up the exposure a bit?

But brighter works too.

Had an impromptu photo shoot with my brother yesterday. I must say, it is a perk for him to be able to simply call me up and set up a shoot in a matter of minutes, lol. He said, "I got a new shirt and I'd like for you to take pics of me". I laughed but still ended up doing it, lol:

I typically don't like selectively desaturated photos, but in this instance, I felt it was appropriate. Let me know what you think:

I am sure I will always miss UW photography, but doing it just occasionally doesn't work for me. I would just keep repeating the same mistakes. When I was doing it full time I really thought I was growing as a photographer (and diver!). Not to mention the cost of maintaining all the systems for few and far between shoots.
Plus I am really enjoying land based nature photography.

Congrats Stan, that is awesome. And the image is amazing, I would love to see that in person some day. Minus any sharks!!

Here is a few randoms from me yesterday. First is a stacked image, missed some focal points which bums me out a bit. Such a great image and such great potential if it weren't for missing those spots. I had it on a tripod but it was such an extreme angle and I think I missed some twists on the focus ring. I'll nail it one day. I need to get a rail or something.

Still going through shots taken with Pat in Fla.

That stacked image is gorgeous Matt. I want to try this some day. :) Beautiful dog Matt. When I took photos of my cousin's daughters with their black 10 week old lab pup many of the shots of the pup were out of focus. Now the pup was moving and quick but was not sure if the out of focus shot were due to the pup moving or if there are trick of taking shots of a moving black object.

Stan, what is "High Key"? Those egrets are so expressive.

That dog is an absolute spaz Pat. He may have dog ADD, or he is just so high energy he can't stop. I put the camera on burst and hoped I got a few shots. His head was turning constantly for these.

I'd like to photograph those egrets sometime, after I get a telephoto!

Pat, it is easier to show you what High Key is rather than explain it. It is typically overexposing without blowing out an image, necessarily, but isn't always the rule. This is a very flexible technique:

Tried to get others but this seems like the best shot of the series so far. Shot at 100mm with my macro lens. Birds are jumpy as you know and my camera being 8 years old sounds like a dial up modem when the shutter clicks so they don't stay very long. I'll keep trying. Need that 5dsr so I can shoot further away and crop without losing detail. The original intent was to capture the birds fluffing themselves in the water, but I was struggling with shutter speed and fighting the lighting. Could of dropped the fstop but being a macro further away from the subject I wanted a wider DOF if possible, especially not knowing where exactly they would land/bathe. Give and take. I think it's a good capture none the less. I'll have to look at the others but I think the Cardinal was to skittish to even get in the bath and stayed on the outer edges of the frame. And the Robin got in but never got a great shot of him. Will keep trying this, it was great......apart from the waiting game!

They are going to get a chance to test it at NASA Neutral Buoyancy Lab (http://dx12.jsc.nasa.gov/site/index.shtml) in a few weeks. Though they won't attempt to go 40 feet deep (will have all sort of failure if they did), it will be quite an experience for a group of 8th graders.

Already happened I'd say! Pat's birds are much more interesting and cool than mine thats for sure LOL. All of the cooler backyard birds seem to be the ones that get spooked easy. Guess that is where the long lens comes in handy so the shutter of a camera right beside them doesn't spook em. Love that Osprey Pat!

I may get stoned for this, but classes for what? You already have the principals down and that is basically what they will teach you, unless it is a class specifically geared towards enthusiasts and advanced photographers, then I would say to take it.

With that said, if you ever have any kind of questions on anything photography related, just let me know and I can either answer it for you or point you in the right direction ;)
