Okay I admit that I am being a little hypocritical here. If these were Discus I would not even consider them. Veil tail Discus just seem wrong to me...I have no desire to own them or see them gain in popularity. To each his own if you've seen them in pics and like them. But I was out and about and stopped at a LFS for some crickets for our fire belly toads and saw what has to be one of the weirdest mutations I have seen yet... Veil tail Oscars! I have a soft spot for oscars having had many over the years, wild and domestics. And I have often thought of getting a tank of them again some day. Saw these and I was floored. They remind of some grumpy mutant Veil tail angel. Embarrassed to admit it but they are growing on me. Something very different.

Haven't decided if I like them yet or am just attracted to the absurd blending of a stocky bruiser like an oscar with veil tails..

Yay ( you like them) or Nay (you don't)

These are quick snapshots with my phone at the petshop, but you get the idea.

These actually are more interesting-looking than I thought they would be, once I saw the pictures. But they are pretty small ones, right? Something tells me as adults they would be just... wrong.:)

Are they sterile?

Do they breed true?

Did you say LFS?

Those really are the strangest looking oscars I've never seen! Those sexy fins take the "I'm here to eat you little fish" threat out and change it to, "fish are friends, not food!" Ha!

As my grandma once said "it's so ugly, it's cute!".

I don't see why not as long as the veil tail is not impairing its capability to eat, swim, or live 'normally'

I've been into a lot of LFS and have never seen these before. So really they've been around that long ago?

It will have to be a nay from me simply because they look so strange. You may have thought the same thing at first Al but I can see how these could grow on you

Kinda reminds me of Nandopsis Haitiensis (black nasty) at older age where it has long flowy fins.

I've also always had a soft spot for oscars and I have one right now but I don't think I would want one of these. Gonna be another Nay vote from me.

Tough Crowd for this weird mutant.:) I wonder if they will get to normal oscar size? I suspect not. Its funny my son saw them and thought they were the coolest thing. His first fish were oscars and one of his favorites.

Probably would not get along well with my odessa barbs.:) Im pretty sure they may look fancy but they are not going to be good in a community tank! lol

It gets ugly when they're older. I've seen adults and they struggle to swim, much like superveil Angels and some fancy halfmoon bettas. The tail becomes so heavy that it seems to weigh them down and they swim at a 45 degree angle.

Yes a long time.Yes to normal size. And the ones I had were red Oscars, not the tigers.

i have kept oscars since i was a kid, so i love them too, but i have never liked the veil-tailed variety. i dont like the way they move, how their fins drag and hang, it looks sluggy, and every tiny split or crimped imperfection makes me think of fin rot, reminds me of a sick fish somehow. i know some ppl like them, but personally im uncomfortable watching them swim.

Not digging the babies but I do like some of the adult pics. I've always wanted Oscars but never had a big tank. Now I don't know if I would be able to put anything other than discus in a big tank, though...
