Hi everyone I have started to keep discus the last few months and had a question about them. I bought 8 from my local store here and found them to be a bit weak some however are quite strong and I found out that the discus I got came from Asia. The quality just doesn't seem to be that good in my opinion. I would post pics but I think I need a bunch of posts before I can post pics. My question is does anyone know of good discus sellers in Canada? I am out in Alberta and right now I am setting up another tank and I would like to have some good quality discus.

Some of the best discus come from Asia and it is normal practice for them to come from this area. Another great source is Germany. We have a few sponsors that are in Canada, however, I do not know geographically which are closer to you but I will link our Canadian sponsors here:

I'd highly recommend the supplier in the 2nd link that Ricardo has given you - i.e. Canadian Aqua Farm of Maple Ridge, B.C. - contact Rick Grange - he'll ship to the airport nearest to your location with live delivery guaranteed.
Rick is fully reliable & carries high quality discus imported from Forrest discus in Malaysia - a top Asian breeder/exporter.
I get all my discus from Rick.
April Ross - in the first link also carries good quality discus, but I don't believe she ships outside of B.C.
The other link is also a good supplier, but shipping from Ontario would likely be more expensive.

How is the water in B.C? Here in Calgary the water is hard and i'm not sure how well they would do with the adjustment if the water is soft out in B.C. I was also looking at Discus Paradise that gets them from Germany where they are grown in harder water. We have a local guy here in Calgary called alberta discus http://albertadiscus.ca/ Don't know much about him or the quality.

here is what I have in my 48 right now I am aquascaping my 105 and will probably just move the Discus and Rummy nose tetras with the corys over to that tank.

I have lost 2 discus since that photo. For some reason they just stopped eating nothing changed in their diet and I do around 30% water changes every second day. The other ones are rambunctious and full of energy. I just figure they were the runts of the fry I got.

I don't know anything about that Alberta supplier - never heard of them. And I should have if they were really good. The pics look good and the prices seem ok, but that doesn't mean they're good - you need to get some reliable, positive recommendations that they`re quality discus suppliers.
Our water here is great right out of the tap - 6.8-7.0.
German (Stendker) discus are good, but it depends on whether they`re getting them direct or through a 3rd party.

All I can tell you for sure is this:
If you get your discus from Rick Grange at Canadian Aqua Farm, you will get excellent quality stock, and you won't go wrong.
