If you were going to spend the money for a larger (100+ gallons) rimless tank for discus, which brand/configuration would you go for? I'm just trying to get some ideas and thoughts before i plop down a lot of money and then realize of dang i should have bought x tank instead. Also is rimless and topless for discus a bad idea? Will they jump out? This will be my first discus tank, and largest tank i've owned.

Glasscages.com not bad for price. I would have a screen top made from artfullyacrylic.com if you are not viewing or not home keep the top on.

I'm torn on Glasscages as far as quality goes. I think it has gotten better but I would not put them in the same class as some others. Read so many mixed reviews on them it would be hard for me to decide, prices are good though. The tanks I've seen in person from them, like at NADA show 2014 looked very nice. Just makes me nervous.

If you want extreme quality, the best in the business, look at Reef Savvy. Quite possibly the best custom rimless tanks on the market currently. Not at all cheap though. Miracles in Glass also does nice work, I have one of their rimless tanks. Custom will not be cheap where ever you go but build quality is nice. I believe Miracles can do more traditional sizes in rimless so might not be as expensive. You might also check with SC Aquariums. http://www.scaquariums.com/ not sure if they do any custom work but contact them and see if you want a different size, or want to change background color/location of overflows, they may be able to do it for you. For what they offer I find their prices extremely reasonable and have read some good reviews on their tanks.

I agree 100%. GC's offers cheaper options for a reason, they do not pay attention to the fine details that would set the tank above others as far as offerings. Attention to detail is one thing I find hard to overlook, and I think I would only go with GC's if I were on a very restricted budget.

There are other options as well:

I will say one thing, 1 of the 2 companies above has come in to major scrutiny lately for the longevity of their tanks. I would advise you to do your homework VERY thoroughly and decide if you want to take the risk yourself if you'd like to go with them.

AA some not necessarily rimless here but there are some

Crystal dynamics makes some phenomenal tanks. Not cheap

Agreed, I have seen those concerns/complaints as well on many forums the past few months - a year.

Thanks, you guys have given me a few more companies i had not heard of to look into. I had pretty much already decided to not go with GlassCages. I'm looking pretty hard at Reef Savvy, but I dont know what their prices are, I have put in a quote request but that may take awhile. Does anyone know what their "Phantom Bottom" is? Thanks!

Reef Savvy would be a great choice if you have the money to spend on it, worth it quality wise. Lead times may be really slow though as EVERYONE wants one and he really takes time on each tank. I think the quote on a 70gal type tank I put it came back to around $1600 before shipping. In the grand scheme its not to bad for a custom amazing tank. Phantom bottom is like an armored bottom that doubles for looks. The glass is sandwiched between ABS and PVC allowing you to put the tank either directly on plywood base/stand top or on something like thin 1/4" neoprene instead of bulky foam.
