I was at the Gatorland Rookery in Orlando where we are getting to the end of the season for nesting and chick rearing. There was a trio of Tri-Colored Heron chicks which made the trip worth while.

I believe the best improvement here will not be any PP but rather cropping. The first is a square crop which you know I am not a huge fan of, the second makes the subjects too "squished in" if you know what I mean?

Recropped them both Ricardo, the birds were really close to me so do not have much height to work with.

A bit more width on the first one Ricardo but do not have the height on this one either.

I don't mind the crops really, though now that I know Ricardo's buttons I plan to push them. Square, everything. ;) hahaha

Great pics Pat. When comparing both the first and second, I personally prefer the second due to the fact that It looks like the first photo has vignetting all around it. Might be PP, lens, or just natural light and shadows who knows....but the second is just a bit more pleasing to the eye IMO. Again, this is just a nit pick. Nothing really wrong with the photo. I think you've captured excellent detail though, love it. And i love that adult photo.

Push away Matt :)

I used a radial filter to surround the chicks and then reduced the exposure around the chicks. Perhaps overdid it a bit. :p
