I will be going on vacation for 10 days at the end of June. While I'm away WC will not be possible. Reading the vacation sticky the consensus for adult discus not feeding for 10 days is not a problem. My question is can the smaller community fish, mostly from tetra family and 3 Cories , survive 10 days without food? There are approximately 25 community fish with the discus in a 125 gal with 20 gal sump.

Community fish will be okay for 10 days too.I have gone away for 14 days and all the community fish were fine.

Just adding to the question, wouldn't the discus go for the tetras?

10 day fasting is ok. but i'm sure your discus will eat the tetra's. even if they cant swallow them. they will kill them and eat them piece by piece. u can get a auto feeder if you're worry.

Do not get an auto feeder! Unless you want dead fish upon your return...

The discus may hunt the small fish but they probably will not... I've left my adult discus for a week and at times longer and all was fine. I've never had issues with them going after my rummies or cardinals.

The most important thing is good clean water while you are gone. Fast them the day before you go and do two big water changes if you can back to back days and you go away and have a good time.

For <14 days holiday, it is best to leave the tank without food (start from the day before so they don't poop when you gone) and in clean water (100%WC the day before). Ensure heater and filter working properly. It's better to clean the filter too a week before. If you have plants, get a timer max 6 hours per day for the light, otherwise leave the light off for the whole time. That's it.

Also, it depends on the age of Discus. The younger the discus, the shorter the days you can leave them unfed.

Thanks for the input. I feel comfortable not feeding while away for 10 days. I will do water change and stop feeding day before I leave as recommended.
