Hey guys,
Recently in my surfing on the net i found a forum (not simply discus) where someone mentioned they use nature remedies eg garlic, Indian Almond leaf. Before any medicen, most of the time they claimed they work however the disease will not actually be completely killed of just put into a state much like ick, not affecting anyone till they are stressed.
So my question is: What are these natural remedies? How well would they work with medicine to completely kill off the trouble maker? Advantages and disadvantages?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Austin, I would not call either garlic or IALs a natural remedy as in a substitute for meds. Garlic is used to help encourage appetite. IALs are used to help soften water, release tannins in the water which can help wild fish feel more comfortable and act as a breeding aid. Rooibos tea is also used to add tannins to the water, help calm shy fish and act is a health aid. IALs and rooibos tea are used with fish who live in soft, acidic water.

I have used Indian Almond leaf to help drop the ph, after I first dropped the TDS with a lot of RO.
Without the RO, there is too much buffering in my water to have an effect on the ph with the Almond Leaves.

Hi Austin,
When you read things like this its important to question exactly what the problem was, how it was identified, and how specifically it was treated. Often times things coincidentally may seem to work but really it was something else like improving your water quality that made the difference. . Thats not to say that there not natural remedies out there..there probably are. Aspirin was initially isolated from willow trees, identified from folklore as useful for pain and fever.

Why not natural remedies for fish ailments? Provided the right observations, questions and answers preceed it.:)

However, there is one very good natural remedy we can rely on to help fish deal with health issues, keep parasites and pathogenic bacteria in check, and boost the fishes immune system. ...Lots of good clean Water and food.:)

In my opinion, garlic is really good and you should have daily. It support your digestive system, flatulence disappears right away if you have a piece of raw garlic and digest it. That's is one good point of garlic.

Heat and salt is a great remedy for ich or heat alone.Salt can be used as dips, altho I have never used salt for such. Some things like Melifix and Pimafix are made from plant extracts, but I have never used those either.I think garlic is said to keep parasites at bay.

let me eat some garlic and lock you in the room with me.......you'll come off this statement "flatulence disappears right away if you have a piece of raw garlic" and BEG to be let free in clean air:evilgrin:
