Terrible cross. Ugly peppered Discus regardless of how clean the parents are. If you make that cross you will regret it.

Terrible way to say it but she's right by all means.

Sorry...I know that I am too blunt. Being to the point saves time.

The reason is that a Marlboro is a pigeon blood based strain. When you cross a Pigeon with a non Pigeon the fry are always heavily peppered.

First off sorry for barging in but I also been wanting to know.

What strain is the Fiamma Rossa? Fries going to be ugly as well? I also have a blue diamond that paired up with the FR, not proven. I don't plan on breeding so just being curious. Thanks :)

Non Pigeon Blood.. x Non Pigeon Blood.. = Nice.. non peppered fish..

Pigeon Blood x Pigeon Blood = nice.. non peppered..

PB x NPB.. = Pepper fish.. (people that know discus would not want them, others that don't know discus. .wouldn't know any better.. :)

your fish.. its up to you.. :)

Cool thanks guys.. I found someone selling quarter sized crosses for 10 bucks a pop so I think it's worth it since I'm new to Discus :P

Well I've had them for 2 weeks now and they are doing great. I have 5 Blue Diamonds and 5 of the Blue Diamond X Marlboro in my 125G. WC 50+/-% every other day. I think they look pretty my phone doesn't do justice.9937199372

They do look nice and healthy. Keep us updated as they grow out.

They look good to me. With that amount of peppering at that age, they will likely have very little peppering as adults.

Peppered Pancakes!
Great shape... and they appear to be healthy.
I always find genetics so interesting.

Sorry for barging in on your thread.those babies look good.
I know crossing pb and non pb is 90% of the time a bad idea especially for a novice breeder, but is it not also true that some master breeders with a good understanding of discus genetics occasionally cross a turquoise based discus to pb to breed the peppering out of a line? so experienced input would be appreciated

Pigeon blood to non pigeon blood cross's are general done using a barless non pigeon blood fish. This is what makes the turq such a terrible non pigeon blood to work with. Clean looking fry at a young age is promising, yet, peppering can and does develop as the fish matures.

And FWIW, the Stendker Dark Angel has Marlboro red and blue diamond in it's genetics.

The real issue here is not that your doing the cross, or have purchased fish from the cross, it's that whoever bred them didn't take the time to grow them out a bit more and cull the peppered ones. Hopefully he kept some of the fry for himself to work with, if not it is generally ill advised.

I see a very healthy discus!
Nice shape and actually a pretty cool looking fish.... not as crazy stunning as some but still a beautiful fish.
A dark water planted tank with 7 of those and 3 wilds would look amazing.
Very raw roots-ish, kind of like old dirt blues.

Cheers mates,
