Power outages and best way of dealing with them.
Anyone keep a backup battery pack on hand?

With a standard tanks power consumption a battery backup unit won't last long. I'd suggest either a small generator, or an inverter to be used with a DC battery.. see here...http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?117188-An-Alternative-to-a-Generator-The-inverter

We used to have a gasoline generator that we could pull out, fire up, and have electricity for the fish room. Two years ago, we had some huge storms come through that knocked out power for four days. The biggest problem we had was that the generator needed to be refueled every 5 hours or so, and we had to drive several towns away to find a gas station that had power so we could pump the gas. That, and it was very loud and disturbed the neighbors at night. After that, we installed a whole-house generator that is powered by natural gas. When the power gets knocked out, the generator immediately starts up and the transfer switch automatically sends to power to our service panel, and power continues as if nothing happened. It has really saved us over the past two years, but peace of mind does not come cheap....
