View Full Version : Obtained some horse flesh.....

We have obtained some new horse flesh. My youngest had sold her mare to buy a truck. I had intended to buy a 2 year old filly that we could start together but then I let my middle daughter get involved and the whole thing came unwound. I ended up with a 3 in 1 package. A well bred mare with a 4 month old filly at her side and bred back to the same stud. Both sides of the pedigree are old blood foundation kind of horses. The mare has a ton of Poco Bueno and King ( other than Poco Bueno ). The stud has some King, a lot of Doc Bar, with Smart Little Lena in there a couple of times. Here is the catch the fellow that owned the mare halter broke her when she was young but then she was turned out on a place that was a few thousand acres and had not been laid a hand on since. Now the mare is only a 3 year old so we have some time but it will be the first time my kids have had to mess with one that is not just dog friendly. I roped the mare on Saturday and finally got to where I could at least touch her. Roped her again on Sunday and after about 45 minutes I managed to get a halter on her. She still does not like it but we have come a long way in a short time. Not that it really matters at this point but My Dad died when I was pretty young and I was raised by a horse trader named Lemuel Langley. I think Jamie ( middle daughter ) is going to keep the filly. She is going to name it something along the lines of Poco Smart Little Langley or Doc Poco Smart Langley. Looking at the white feet and blaze face I imagine the Lemuel is looking down with a smile on his face. He always liked horses that had some chrome on them. They sold the easiest. The papers are straight on the horses and got them for $750 so I know that would make him smile.

Great stuff, john. I miss being around horses. Our neighbor with the adjacent farm did quarter horses and appaloosa's. I always enjoyed watching him break the horses.

Thanks everyone. The horses are doing well and settling in. I think by this weekend I will be able to lead the mare around some. Hopefully I will be riding her within 30 days.
