well water-soft?

hi all,

i have been trying to breed discus for a month with no success. my pair lay eggs every week, but all the eggs turns white by day 3 or become fungused. i've been thinking that the water is too hard as it is directly from the tap, or my male is infertile. im considering changing half the water with well water, to see if there is a difference in softness. any advice?

In most cases the well water is hard too.Hard water from the well will turn the eggs white too. Look into getting a reverse osmosis unit.

is it possible to use distilled water instead? the ro filter is quite expensive. here it's costing over 400 dollars

is it possible to use distilled water instead? the ro filter is quite expensive. here it's costing over 400 dollarsDistilled water gets to be expensive too but a reverse osmosis unit is cheaper in the long run. 25 years ago I did not have one and I used to buy reverse osmosis water from my local fish store for water changes and had to make two weekly trips.What I paid them in a year was enough to buy 2 or 3 units.

Oh, ok. thanks. im just trying a 30% wc with well water. will tell u if there is a change. could there be any other complications using well water? there are gouramis living in the well, so it is good water.
