HI All,
i was wondering if an aging barrel lid should be vented some how? i have 2 brute barrels that i use, i keep the lids on, but not tight, just laying across the entire top of the barrel. once in a while i get a strong chlorine odor, which i assume is the outgassings from the water. should this be vented? and will the venting allow for a better oxygen exchange? i have been aging my water for about 8 months now. i do daily wcs.

thanks,
jim

If you are aging, the quarter inch air line hose is keeping enough of a gap between the lid and rim of the barrel for gases to escape.

I am assuming you have air going to both the barrels?

I actually got a lid that's a size smaller for this reason I have a big 55 brute and I think my lid is for a 40 or 50? It's gives me a nice gap but not too big

I loosely cover my brutes with the top also.

I think that loosely covering is best, too.
