A while ago I bought a few tanks, 2x2x2 foot, pretty over engineered at about 10mm glass. They had been under someone's house and had not been cleaned. At that time I was unaware that the glass could be etched and when I got them home and started trying to clean them I found out what that was. I bought some glass polish and sanded the glass a bit, but gave up and they ended up in my back yard as an unfinished project..

I want to use one of the tanks as a hospital /quarantine tank. What do I need to do to ensure I clean it well enough to use. They have a white powder inside, maybe calcium build up. I've cleaned them out fairly well, but I want to know how to make them fish safe, particularly for Wild Caught Discus.

I have used Lime away for a long time for stains it will also kill anything you are worried about being in the tank. A blue scrubby for Teflon pans also helps remove the mineral stains. After a good rinse it is safe for fish.
