Hello All!

As my tank build progresses I am going to try and keep you all updated. For my stand I first went to Petsmart and bought a generic top fin stand for a 75 gallon tank which turn out to be poor quality and had a crack under the main panel where the tank rest. Next was looking on craigslist which was of no luck unless I buy a whole new tank setup. Third, according to the wife it had to match the color of the living room decor. So I decided to go and get one built, a good friend of mine offered to build it and made sure that it was strong and good quality. So I rounded up the material and over the next 2-3 days we have this built. As you will see it's a pretty strong and heavy stand. Im going to cover it with some plywood in the front, sand it down, paint it and stick a hugh thundercat decal on it. LOLZ. Hope you guys like it.

I would add two 2x4s in each corner so that the 2x4s are supporting the weight of the top not just the screws

Let me make a few suggestions. As Ryan noted the weight of the tank is going to be on the screws. Even if you glued everything together, the tank is not being supported by the floor. I would unscrew the shelf, drop it down to the floor with the 2x4 frame and add 2- 2x4's to each corner and screw them to the 4x4s. Paul K.

I built my own stand for my 125 and what I did was to route out the sections of the 4x4s the same size as the 2x4s and so all the weight would rest totally on the 4x4s and then the floor. It"s more work but it's stronger because I bolted it all together . So every where your 2x4s are mine are inserted.

This is what i did and it worked perfectly!!! Bullet proof, and earthquake proof ( i live in one of the most seismic countrys in the world :bounce: )
*Important* Put some wheels to the stand, it is easy for cleaning and if you need to move your aquarium it is very easy, you will think it is unnecesary but NO! Very useful
Good luck
