Hey guys my Iron Blue Sakura I just purchased isn't looking super fancy today. It started last night. His color is dulled out and he is hiding in the back of my quarantine tank. He eats but not aggressively. He looks just generally not awesome. I did a 80% wc last night and I am doing one now.

I'm not quite sure what to think of it. He almost looks "depressed" lol.

My perimeters are solid, temp is 84, no sings of bloat, worms, no slimy poop, no typical signs of disease? I am confused. He just generally looks lethargic and unhappy.

Any thoughts? Fishy Prozac?

I am thinking of separating him out from my other fish that are in qt protocol.

The fins are out and the eyes are shiny, so whatever it is, it's not serious. Before throwing in medication, I suggest the following.

1. Move the fish into its own tank, small one ideally
2. Bring the temperature up to 95 - 97F
3. Add 1 tablespoon/gallon of salt (not teaspoon)

The fish will start to feel better immediately. This treatment will give it a chance to heal itself. I'd leave it in this condition for at least 3 - 4 days, a week is fine. It should also be hungry at elevated temperatures. When it looks good, slowly adjust the salinity and turn the heater down. You should do a series of 50% water changes to get the salt out before putting it back with the others.

Aren't you glad he's in quarantine?!

Yeah Willie I think I'll do that. I am glad he is, except the fact he is still mixed it's $500 in fish that are in quarantine.. I didn't think it was super serious. I would have pulled him immediately. I agree medication isn't the right answer. Maybe he is pissed I took him from the four others that looked like him and put him in with a motley crew of random discus.

Thanks for the advice

I on the other hand see zero wrong with this fish and zero reason to remove him or take any further action other than up water changes.

It's precautionary. If you have an extra quarantine tank available, I see no reason to take a chance. But you can argue this either way.

This morning, my grow out tank with 5 checkerboard pigeons had one fish in the corner in the back. These fish have been in their own tank since last July and the other four are chowing down on beef heart. I saw no obvious disease symptoms, but it was easy to plop loner into quarantine. The regimen I suggest does no harm.

The happy guys

It's only been a couple of hours, but I'm glad I did. Willie

Well Willie, I think we were both wrong. He hit a wall today. Like literally and figuratively. He is super dark, now has a scratched forehead from the fist bump with the wall, and his eyes clouded up. I am thinking about treating the entire qt tank with Furan and melafix. A second fish is looking like he did two days ago. Here are a couple of new pics. I hate to go here but is it possible it is ich? He has like two white spots on him. I need a damn microscope!!!

So again, here are the symptoms I have observed. General laziness, eats slowly, hangs out at the bottom of the tank away from others, cloudy eyes (as of today), and two maybe three white specs on him. He is also skittish a bit.
