Worms

Here's one for y'all. Several months ago I found some great driftwood along a river bank. I boiled it for 4 hours, submerged it for 5 weeks until it sank. I just set up my new tank and put the driftwood in it. Two hours later there were about 10 small(1/2" Max)red worms twisting around on the bottom. Anyone know what they are?

I can't see anything surviving the boil they must of got on-in in the sink phase
