I have gotten both cardinals and rummys from John Snookin.......one of the sponsors here.

Unless you're going to get 100 or so, it will cost you the same if you add in the shipping charge. The real issue is that now is not a good time to get tetras from the Amazon. They're mostly harvested in August and September and quality is great then. In my experience, the stuff you get off season has much lower survival rate.

BTW, the same would be true from an importer or an LFS.

I got a bunch from The Fish Store. They are out of Eugene Oregon. They were all tank raised, high quality, and a fair price. If you need a lot Snookin is the way to go though. I only needed a dozen.

i got mine from Imperial Tropicals out of Florida, they specialize in hard to raise species. i got 22 and no DOA. all are in great shape and doing well, along with 5 German Blue Rams. They are captive breed cardinals. They were a great company to deal with, quick to respond to emails, and shipping is very reasonable

Another vote for John Snookin. I have bought them from him a couple of times, several hundred each time. Some didn't make it, but the vast majority did and he puts in extras for a couple losses - or he did when I ordered.
