Is cycling a new tank an absolute necessity with the following program?
I plan to do a 90% - 95% w/c in the am and a 50% w/c in the pm.
There will be two hydro5's with ten 2 1/2 inch fish in a 30 gal.

That seems like a lot of fish in a small tank

I was only going to keep them in there till they put on some size but I have been thinking
the same thing as you and I think I'm going to put them in a 75.

No, if you are changing 90 percent water In the morning and 50 percent at night you will be fine until your tank cycles. But do not skip any of your water changes or you will be in serious trouble very quickly.

i thought cycling with discus was a NO NO! if you need pristine water how will they handle the spikes? even if you change twice a day the spikes are gonna happen. I'm new to these fish and currently in a fish less cycle. I'm not giving advice to the question but more of bringing up some thoughts to the question. if I'm wrong thats fine but would like to know.
