I have a question... So I know there are some heavyweights out there that are going to hit the deck when i say this but here goes...

So when is it that you think or know a fish is ready for show?

I have seen pictures of fish that have won prizes and I have some fish that would stand toe to toe with them. I, of course, am bias towards my fish as we all are. On the other hand, I have a few that are nice for their respective strain.

Do you just show up and see how it goes? Do you have to have some sort of pedigree? I'm not entirely sure how the "show world" works. Other than i've been to shows to see fish.

Check with the fish club for registration and entrance
fees requirements. You might have to be current
member.

I brought a home-grown fish to the NADA show last year. No special requirements, just pick a category to enter it in. On the last day of the show the display room was closed to the public for a couple hours and the judges did their thing. The winners were announced at the banquet. I didn't win anything but it was a great experience. You might check the NADA thread under clubs and view last year's winners. Here's a link to the judging criteria.
