Hello, I'm new to the forum and had a general question. I was lucky enough to get an old DAS rack system that is basically 3 glass 75 gallon tanks stacked on top of each other. I plan on repaintinf the background. What do you feel is the best color for discus? Thanks in advance.

This really comes down to taste. Black backgrounds can cause peppering in pigeons and darkening in the others, but black also makes the fish "pop". Light blue is a popular color. I prefer I more neutral background to contrast with bright discus colors. I tried for a light gray color, but it ended up too blue. If I were to do it again, I would go with light gray, but that is just my preference.

Google some photos and see what you think looks best.

Yes, I agree with Clawhammer - it's strictly a matter of taste.

Having said that, I've tried many colors over the years - a lot of them in discus tanks, and this medium blue is my all time favorite, when coupled with a light sand bottom.

THat does look great! I feel like I've seen a lot of very light blue or even white backgrounds. I do like them but I'm also a big fan of the natural look. I have the Rocky background from universal rocks on my larger SA cichlids tank.

It's a 75 gal tank, with 2 X 39w T5HO lighting - 7 hrs./day.
When that pic was taken, the tank had been set up with those plants approx. 4-5 months.

Re background painting, does anyone here use plastidip successfully?
