View Full Version : Worms in my tank

I have just set up a new tank and begun the cycling process. I bought five cheap goldfish about 2.5 inches long to dirty the tank and create ammonia. As it turns out I believe one or more of these fish have worms. I deduced this from the white, stringy, poop that is coming out of them.

Now I have no intention of trying to treat these fish. BUT after they have been culled, do I need to treat the empty aquarium or will the life cycle of the parasite naturally rid me of the problem once there is no hosts present?

Thanks :)

P.S. If I posted this in the wrong place I apologize.

Hi Lee, cycling a Discus tank with goldfish is not a very good idea.Sterilize the whole set up and start again with a fishless cycle, Follow the cycling procedure outlined in this thread ......http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?125704-Beginner-s-Guide-to-Getting-Started-with-Discus

+1.
Starting fishless cycle with discus only after the cycle is the way to go .
I personally lean on bottled bacteria products to speed up the process and do a lots of water changes in the initial phase of keeping to prevent Ammonia and nitrite build up.
