They got great colours and pattern Johny but they are too small and pointed i.e. stunted for their age .
BTW what do you have at bottom of the tank ? Is that an insulation material under your glass or something on the bottom of the tank ?

Its just how the aquarium looks underneath. Sad to hear they are stunted. I feed them 2-3 times a day :l

dont feel too bad, ive got some stunted discus too... as long as they are healthy u can enjoy their beauty. i just adoped a super stunted little guy from a friend. he is SO small for his age (smallest ive seen!) but he is round and healthy, so i dont mind the little cutie. u can try increasing water changes and feedings to help get the most out of the rest of their growth period - it never hurts to increase wc!

They have great color and to all non discus experts they look great.
To anyone else it is a big colorful pretty fish. How often and how much water
do you change? How large a tank were they raised in? How many fish?
Has it always been bare Bottom tank?

They have been in this aquarium since 4 months old. I change 40 % water every 3 or 4 days. It has been a barebottom for almost the entire time. They were raised by a breeder.

Feeding is very important but water changes are much more important to achieve optimum growth.

You mentioned WC's,but not the size of your tank. This goes hand and hand.

My tank is 60 gal :)

My endgame was always to make two of them pair out and breed - is this stupid if they are stunted?

+1 on Kyla and Ryan, Filip and the others. You have got beautiful colors and have been enjoying them up to this point so keep enjoying them! You could possibly squeeze out some size with increased water changes. So why not do both? If anything you will have healthier happier fish and enjoy them even longer. :)

I know that a lack of water changes will cause discus to be stunned, with eyes out of proportion to body size? Is the football shape always a result of the water or is also related to proper food? Could it be a result of poor parent selection. What do you think?
