I have three thermometers on my tank and all read different temps :flame: I even have a Masione infrared thermometer gun and it doesn't agree with any of them either. The range is from 81.9 to 85. Why ???
I want the tank at 84 degrees. What is the best way to get an accurate reading ?
Thanks,
Zippy

are they all in the same spot in your tank?

I would take your infrared gun take the temp in three spots get an average and then calibrate your Inkbird to the average. Problem solved.

No, two are 1in off bottom and one is 4" from the top. I think you just answered my questions.
What was I thinking.....................

You can put them all in a glass of water just to check if they agree...

The easiest way is sometimes the most obvious and the most overlooked.......... again what was I thinking ????
Thanks,

Take some ice in bowl and put all your thermometers in it, also take the temperature with your infrared thermometer gun of the same bowl. They all should read 32 F/0 C degrees. Note the difference between all your thermometers.Keep the difference in mind when using those thermometers.

Best way is get an inkbird. Let that control the heaters

He has one Ryan. I think part of the issue is he was using those digital probe thermometers which I have found been to be highly inaccurate. I threw all mine out. That is why I recommended using the very accurate infrared to take several readings average those and calibrate the Inkbird that run the heaters.

I do think it is a good idea to check the flow of the tank too as suggested above.

Well I put all four thermometers in a glass of water and the results were:
Infrared Gun - 70.5
Ink Bird - 72.4
White plastic thermometer - 71
Digital with probe - 70.7

I adjusted the Inkbird to read 70.5 and we are good to go................
Thanks everyone for your help,
Zippy
