Hi; im new here, im a new discus grower and i have some problems with my ph lvl, its very high to me, its rise evry time after i balanced it to 7.0 its rise to 7.5 in a few days,
I know that CO2 will down the PH level, my qustion is if the oxegen pump (O2) rising up the level of the PH? ( i have pretty strong oxegen pump )
thank you

Alex it sounds like to me that the water out of tap is carbonated which is causing the pH to be lower then once it gasses off the CO2 it rises. This is normal, and it is a reason most people age their tap water in a barrel with an air stone and a heater before doing water changes. If your pH is leveling out at 7.5 then that's really a great pH to have for Discus. 7.5 is not high.

Alex I've merged your threads to avoid the duplicate.

thanks for the answer, about the aged tap water, what temperture to set the heater in the barrel..... can u please explain me more about the aged tap water and how to make it and how its work,
ive got 500 liter tank and im using tap water, adjusting the PH lvl with ''PH DOWN" giving it cuaple minuts and and spill it to the tank.

Alex.

Aging the water is a norm for discus keepers. Aging with an airstone and a bubbler, gasses out all the co2 to even the PH out with your tank ph before doing a water change. If you add water to your tank that has a lower ph than the tank water then you could cause PH burn to your fish. THROW AWAY THE PH DOWN!!! Its not a good idea to tamper with these products, they are temporary and do nothing in the end.

What I do is fill up a 30 gallon brute trash can in the morning before work, stick a heater (set to 82 degrees like my tank) and a bubbler in the water, plug them in and put the lid about 85% on the barrel and go to work. My water ages all day while I'm at work and when I get home, I just use a pump to pump the water from my aging barrel into my tank, I add a water conditioner to my aging barrel directly before doing the water change.

thank you very much, i did not know this its very helpfull, i have last qustion: usual air pump (not CO2) can rise the PH level? ive got realy strong pump, can it harm the water or the fish?

your air pump, or any tank filter will aerate the water and thus release co2 the same way a bubbler would. ITs just better to do it during the aging process so that your water change water has the same ph and temperature as your in tank water. Your PH is stabling out at 7.5 in the tank right? It should stabilize out to the same thing in the aging barrel more or less. 7.5ph is good, you do not need to be lowering it if your tank stays stable at 7.5. most people dream of a 7.5ph.

ok, thanks, so keep the air to flow in the tank no harm in it, right?
sorry for asking again but i didnt understand you answer
(English its not my language so i ask twice xD)

Correct Alex, there is no harm in the air flow to the tank. Unless its so hard that your discus cant swim which I doubt is an issue or you would have mentioned it already.

alex, did you test the rock before adding it to the tank to see if it is neutral or not?
