White fuzz is completely normal on new wood. Although unsightly it's not harmful

its normal on background too I assume how long does it usually take to get rid of it

Usually the stuff grows on new wood. Not sure about background...maybe what's on background came off wood and stuck there?

The fuzz can last for some time especially if there are no fish picking at it. You can take the wood out occasionally and scrub it

ok you may be right about the driftwood fuzz sticking on the background your guess is as good as mine but ill get the tank cycled and add some fish and hopefully it will disappear soon thanks

That or remove wood and soak in a barrel so you can easily clean it then add back to the tank when it's no longer fuzzing
