Hello,
I took a break from keeping discus for a few years due to my health, I have thought about setting up a tank with a school of large discus. Does anyone know of a importer of Alexander Piwowarski fish? They were popular back when I had my last fish which were asian and I didnt want to mix them. Looking to see if I can find someone who gets his fish now? I have heard he was hard to get fish from so I may be out of luck.... but thought it would be worth a shot to ask.

Thanks
Spencer

Good luck on getting the ones you see in his videos. Those never make it to the U.S...not the Red Turks anyways...Bill

Poppa Rhino should be able to point you in the right direction, he has cobalts, turns and ring leopards from Piwo, a lot of them have paired up and getting down to business

You actually can get them when he releases jumbos after they are paired most likely. I recommend you contact him directly to see what he has in stock.
Dont expect any red turks till 2019. I know he has leopards and colbalt jumbos in now and about 10 red turk x cobalts. Some of us import directly from him but it cost alot.

Best way to connect with him is via Facebook...ask for the price sheet. Sounds like most have already been sold.

What do you have to do to get fish from another country into the US? Do you need a license? Do you have to pay a fee? I live in Chicago and I know they can be imported directly to our airport.

You'll need an import license. But unless you are making a large order from Alexander, the shipping costs will kill you. And yes, there are fees, lots of them.

Dalat does not have an online store. I communicated with him yesterday on the DFW Fishbox forum. He is getting the Piwos in on the 15th. Only leopards and cobalts in the large-jumbo sizes. Priced $185-$350.
And he didn't say anything about being sold out yet.

And FWI, Dalat and Discus Chill are the only U.S. distributors listed currently on Alex's website.

Plwowarski is that much better than a Stendker, wattley, Chen, or what Forrest has to offer to want to seek them out at a greater cost and time spent finding them?

In my humble opinion they are. They are rounder than Stendkers and more bulky than Asian's.

Liz, do you have any? It seems that if one could source a pair that they would make the best breeding stock then.

At one point I was looking for RSG's. I would have loved to have big fat round German ones, but by then they had had some kind of fish room disaster and all the RSG's had been lost. They had another lesser disaster after that, if I remember correctly then started once again. By that time I had already found some show quality Asian imports that I got for way less than they were worth in an auction here on Simply. All my current breeding stock comes from those auction fish.

Those auction fish were from Ricky Lim brought in by Ryan. And I know how picky Ryan is LOL.

Those look like nice beefy fish. I have a very untrained eye for great discus, but I can see they are thick and nice round foreheads.

Just a funny observation...

That dude looks like Garth Algar from Wayne's World.

My love affair for piwow fish started in 2012 at the NADA 2012 show in Atlanta. Kraig K. imported a couple piwow turks which were known for being huge, round with beautiful straight lines. This was one of those fish. This photo is Matt's photo from this thread http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?97292-Matt-s-NADA-Atlanta-2012-log/page3, post 34.

Sometime later I heard he lost the line due to a hatchery accident. Later Kraig was able to bring some of Alex's RT into the US and I got a group. Here's my timeline thread. http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?102110-Piwowarski-Red-Turquoise-Timeline. These to me did not seem like the same fish from the 2012 show and I lost interest and sold them. Then ended my love affair for piwow fish.

I loved that fish. I remember the first time I saw a picture. If I recall, Kraig had a tough time getting it to breed but was able to get one or two small successful hatches.
