What kind of heaters/brands are popular these days? Mine are old Via Aqua's and I'm experiencing downward temperature swings. I'm not sure I trust them after my experience several years ago.

I've always used titaniums with external controller and like the convenience.

I'm looking at Finnex and Aquatop at the moment.

Thanks

Do you have canister filters? If you do, I strongly recommend the Hydor external filters:

They work like a charm and work hidden from the tank.

Have had Hydor heaters for years, absolutely trouble-free.

Don, do you use a separate controller with it?
Thanks

No, there's no need. I do have a thermostat so I know the temp. I actually have two Hydors on my 150 gallon tank, obviously with two canister filters.

+1 on the hydor as well for a canister. As for sumps, you could get an Inkbird controller and a regular heater to hook up to it.

I've been using the Eheim's from Jehmco, but they are glass and I've broken a few bouncing them around my tanks. I'm bare bottom and don't bother to use the mounting brackets, so i know I'm causing my own problem there. I started buying the aqueon pros again. I haven't tried the Hydors or used a controller yet.

Would the hydors work on a Fluval fx5? I'm wondering if the return tube is to large in diameter for the hydor....

hydor makes a 5/8" size in 200 and 300 watt. And another 200 watt in a smaller diameter. However, 5/8" is the common size in the US.
