Well when I get some discus they will most likely be coming from Hans, and he has some specials that include 3" and 4" discus. I wanted to know is this the gap where it goes from 50% WC every other day to 50% WC one every week?

I want to know because of the price difference obviously. Thanks!

It depeneds on the tank size, but even at 4" one WC a week at 50% is not enough especially if you have substrate. At 4" you could get away with 2 WC a week at 75%. Remember clean water is priority number 1. At 3" I would try and shoot for 50% every day/ every other day.

We all would like to do 1 WC per week lol, it's just not sufficient to keeping Discus healthy. Then we want to squeeze as many fish in the tank as possible duh. If your going to do Discus, change your mentality from "how little can I get away with", to " I'm going to do every thing possible until I know better". Remember that they are in a box, and all they have is YOU, and you have the power and ability to provide the best or just plain KILL them with being ignorant and lazy. This hobby, if you call it that, has no place for lazy people, all you will do is sicken and kill beautiful fish.

I would wait till 5-6 " mark or at least 1 year of age before I lower down the WCs to a one per week .
You ll also have to lower down the feedings to a 1-2 dry and small meals per day and consider a lighter bioload (15 G per discus ) if you want to try a one WC per week regime.

I was thinking about perhaps 5 x 4" Discus instead of 7 x 3".

4" is a good starting size for discus but inadequate water quality will cause stunting and leave them vulnerable to diseases. They will grow but would not reach their potential. They are your fish and you can do as you please, but like Geo said they are dependant on you alone. If 1 WC a week is all you are able to do I would start with 5" minimum as Filip stated.

I got in touch with Hans and will be purchasing 6 4" Discus from him when I get this whole thing up and running
Stock List:
12 Cardinals
5 Cory Cats
2 Albino BN
6 Discus

I will have a few live plants as well. Maybe some Amazon Swords or some Annubius.

This will be a 90 Gallon which can be seen in my YT channel

Nice number and size of discus . Your whole plan sounds reasonable to me except for your planned WC regime . Start with more and gradually try to get there instead of pre setting your routines .

Did you actually use Dawn to clean the tank? If so please take it outside and rinse thoroughly. Soap and fish are not a good mix.

I wipes it with a damp nap that had water dawn mix and then followed with a napkin with just water, then I dried it with towel and let it sit for a bit and then filled it up. There is this one guy either Joey or KG Tropicals on YT interviewed who breed german blue rams and said he does that to all his tanks before he sets them up to remove any grease from the factory that may have remained.

That will seriously kill the fish with that sort of procedure?

Personally I think any soap combo with a fish tank is asking for trouble. I would use white vinegar for cleaning a tank.

Here is the video clip starting where he talks about his beginning process.

It was actually Aquarium Co-op that did the interview. I will let you know if the tetras I add first die or not. I highly doubt they will.

And they may not die. However I am not risking one or more hundred dollar fish.

I think it is bad advice for a new fish keeper and there are better ways to clean a tank IMO. However to each his or her own.
